Day 128/365 – The Chili’s Diet

CURRENT WEIGHT – N/A

So you might have noticed today and yesterday I marked my weight as “NA”. Well, there is a reason. I dont want to get on the scale for a few days to try a new method. Basically, my original plan was to weigh every day to stay motivated. What I began to find was that on days I gained, I lacked motivation, and on days I lost, I either gained it or gave myself slack because I had made progress. In short: it might have been messing me up. So my new tactic here is to just commit to making healthy decisions as to everything I put into my mouth, and committing to 60 minutes of workout every day. I will weigh in a few days to see how I have been doing and not worry about the weight, rather focusing on the task at hand.

So today I work up on fire, like, determined. I really pumped myself up with the day 127 blog post, so I was ready to go today! I knew I was going to eat at Chili’s for lunch and also head to the gym. So I put the question up on my facebook “Gym Rats – If you have a choice to eat one of your daily meals before or after the gym, which is the better choice? Also, how long should you wait to go to the gym after eating, or reverse, how long should you wait to eat after having come from the gym? “

Here are some of the interesting replies that I got:

Jennifer Keeney carbs 30 mins before working out… but something not heavy like a sandwich but lots of protein right afterwards. A good protein shake within 30 mins after your workout is perfect.

Preston Harrell eat post-workout. As quickly as you can. When your body is broken down you maximize protein synthesis. i drink a protein shake directly after my last set and then eat a chicken breast with a sweet potato right when i get home.

Tanner Tyrolt you would want to eat something high in calories an hour before you hit the gym, constantly rehydrate with gatorade at the gym, than you should eat something high in protien afterwards

Timothy Braggs It depends on your metabolism,
slow = before working out
fast = after…
but at least 60 min between working out and pre/post workout meals so you don’t have that bloated feeling.

Sergio Valencia All the above are great ideas when tying to make lean gains or gain muscle. My advice is to try Intermittent fasting. Work out on an empty stomach so that your body produces more Ketones. What this does is use body fat for fuel as oppose to using carbs. To be honest, eating times are more of a physiological thing. Take prisoners for example, they can’t plan their meals yet they are ripped, why? because ultimately what matters is what your exercise and macro intake is for the day/week. Caloric deficit will translate to weight loss.

Yeah, a lot of information there. I ended up deciding that it didnt really matter one way or the other. So I went into Chili’s and ordered the Lighter Choices Spicy Chicken Platter.

Day 127/365 – The Chili’s Diet

CURRENT WEIGHT: N/A

Dedication. That is really what it’s all about. Dedication to do what you said you would do. Dedication to your dreams. Dedication to making the right decision. Dedication to making the hard choices. Dedication. Thats what I lack. Thats what has kept me out of shape all of these years, and thats what will keep me overweight forever unless I find it. Dedication. Thats what I want to be, I want to be fully involved, fully dedicated. All in. Anything less, produces results that fall short of my ambition. Short of what I really want out of this thing. Nothing but total dedication will ever result in me getting to where I want to be.

Guys, Chili’s has great food, and I love eating there. I love the lighter choices, and I love knowing that when I work hard, I can eat at Chili’s every day, still lose weight, and save time doing it. But this journey is not about Chili’s, its about me. Its about me making the decision to go public, to let it all out, to post it all bare for you to see. To relate to, to contribute to, to share with. I do not know where you are at with the struggles you have in your life: but this is mine. This is my big one. This is the one that has plagued me for nearly 20 years. And I cant be more serious when I say I am done. I am done being undedicated, done being a lackluster commiter, and done settling for less. Done being fat, done being out of shape, and done being unhappy with the way I look. I know the way, I got the recipe. I have the tools… and I have the time. The time is now.

Its day 127. 238 days to go. Can I lose the remaining 80lbs or so in 238 days? Signs point to yes. Maybe I can go further…

Today I woke up determined… on fire. I started the morning off with a tall glass of pure OJ, all of my supplements and multi-vitamins, and some whole almonds.  Around lunch time I headed over to Chili’s Bar and Grill in Rockwall Texas for lunch. I ordered the Lighter Choices Grilled 6oz Sirloin. This whole plate is amazingly under 300 calories.

Day 109/365 – The Chili’s Diet

CURRENT WEIGHT: 277.4lbs

Drat, went up a little. Grr, was hoping to get down.

Woke up at 5am to go to Cars & Coffee in Dallas. Its a huge monthly car event that attracts some of the nicest cars in DFW. Its a must see for any car guy. I was there until 10am, and I drove a go-kart into the meet. Yeah, how is that for marketing?

Day 108/365 – The Chili’s Diet

CURRENT WEIGHT: 277.0 lbs
Friday, June 1st 2012

Hi there everyone! Man, what a month May was! My weight was all over the place, I fluctuated more than 10lbs twice! I left my job and security and went out on a limb and started my own LLC company, I attended more graduations and party’s then I think I ever have. The whole month of May was just a mess for me in regards to The Chili’s Diet. I still managed to eat there 1 time every day, but more than half the time it was to-go, I didnt take pics, or when I did take pics I didnt update the blog. I could try to find some reason to explain why, but excuses are why fat people stay fat. So I am not going to give you an excuse. What I will say dear reader, is that I had to sit down and have a talk with myself.

At day 108, I am nearly 1/3 complete with this project. To be on track, I need to lose 42lbs every 121 days. So far I have lost 48, so yeah, I am a little ahead of schedule. The trouble is, I have been in the 277-285 range for a WHILE now, and I am losing momentum. I cant let up. Now is the time for me to double down, re-commit, and make sure I am spending time being active in addition to a low calorie life style change.

So thats where I am at. I am committed to this. As a friend of mine pointed out, I have done a “weight loss challenge” 7 times over the last 12 years, and never once made it to the end. Every time I have given up, lost. Not this time. I am 48lbs down, and that is a accomplishment in itself. But I am not done, no, I have not even really begun. Now is the time to really push it. I am committed to doing this.

Now that I work for myself, I am officing out of my home. There is of course temptation to sleep in, but I am trying to make sure I am up by 8am every morning and working hard. My wife is a teacher, and today was her last day at school. There is talk of us switching it up and going to the gym together in the mornings to start our day. I like that idea alot. When you go to the gym first thing, you remove any excuses you might come up with for not going. How can you have an excuse? Its the first thing you do when you wake up!

Today I was eager to get into Chili’s in Rockwall. The GM Betty told me that she wanted to make me a custom “veggie tacos” meal to try, so I am excited about that. For today I ordered one of my favorites, the Lighter Choices Grilled Chicken Salad.

Day 98/365 – The Chili’s Diet

CURRENT WEIGHT: 283.0lbs

I stayed up WAY too late last night, so when I woke up this morning at 6:45am, I let the dog out and made my wife’s lunch, and went back to bed. 9:30am, I woke up again. Great, a late start.

I was all over the place with meetings until 3pm, was home for just a little while working and left again at 5pm. I didn’t get back until 9pm, and on my way in I stopped at Chili’s in Rockwall for a light dinner.

Day 97/365 – The Chili’s Diet

CURRENT WEIGHT: 283.2lbs

Yes, I am still alive. Yes, I am still eating at Chili’s every day. Yes, it its a struggle to both hit the gym, eat healthy every meal and wrote a blog every day. Life is… well… crazy!

A lot has been happening, I left my job at the kart track and started my own company! Now, I love the kart track too much to leave them in the cold, so I actually made them my first client! So I guess I am still with the kart track, only this time its on my own terms. That is very liberating, scary and fun all at the same time. Getting a new business in order is no quick task, and that has been taking most of my free time.

It seems like this is the time of year that everyone is graduating, so it has been really hard for me to dodge and avoid the mothers day lunch, the graduation banquets, graduation dinners, graduation partys, oh man. I must have gone to six of them in the last 10 days seriously. None of them were at Chili’s! Many times I have to get my meal in quick to-go and keep on the road. That’s just how it is.

Before I get into day 97, here are some pics I had taken over the last 10 days or so that I didnt get around to uploading. Some days I forgot to take pics at all. Here we go.

Day 86/365 – The Chili’s Diet

CURRENT WEIGHT: 278.6

Got back down into the 270′s! Woot! Its funny, and a little scary, to see how much water weight my body will put on in only a weekend of eating some “non healthy” food. Makes me never want to eat bad again! Ha! My body weight really does go up and down like crazy, and I drive myself bonkers by weighing in every day. I know some of you are saying that I should only weigh in once a week, but if I did that I might eat bad on some days and say “I can make up for it later, I dont weigh in until Monday!”. Ya know, start to make deals with yourself?

Thursday the 10th found me in my camaro going to McKinney to get some service done early on. Things ran late, so I grabbed 2 of the mechanics at the local shop and took them to the Chili’s Grill and Bar for lunch. I had never been to this location before.

Today I got the Lighter Choices Grilled and Spicy Chicken, which is amazing. The amount of food on the plate is a little much for me personally, so I would say get this if you are REALLY hungry. Something about rice makes it fill you up pretty quickly.

The rest of the day was spent with the car, and I actually did not get home until after midnight! I was out of the house in the camaro for 14 hours! Crazy.

It was a good day. Check back in tomorrow for day 87!

Day 84/365 – The Chili’s Diet

CURRENT WEIGHT: 284.8lbs

Man, that is a relief. To have been 289.4lbs yesterday on day 83 and then drop to 284.8 proves that yesterdays weigh in was simply a bad draw. Sometimes you hop on the scale, and you just happen to be holding 3lbs of water and 2lbs of undigested food. Gross I know, but its the truth! That’s why most doctors say you should only weigh in weekly, but that’s no fun is it? They probably know that people like me freak out when you have weight spikes and get demotivated. Well, no more, up or down I am reporting the daily Jared news right here on The Chili’s Diet!

So after my weigh in it was time for breakfast, which was a cup of coffee with no sugar or sweeteners (yuck, but hey my grandpa could handle it), a protein shake and an apple. After that it was off to work I went, stuck in an office chair banging away on marketing design and emails until around 5pm. Lunch was light, just a sandwich and some veggies, nothing to get excited about.

Coming home I had every intention to get right into the gym, but my wife needed some help with some graphics, so I stepped into my home office and went back to work, lol, funny how that happens. Next thing I know I am caught up in facebook, blogs, emails and Yahoo! news, and its 7:30pm. Yikes! Time for dinner! The wife and I headed up to Chili’s in Rockwall.
